Canary in the Coal Mine

about

A story about a coal miner..

lyrics

Canary’s in the coal mine, will she rise to sing again?
Heat is hot and the lights are out, I can’t hear my little friend
Guess I’ll swing the axe again, one last strike before I’m dead
A dirty hand finds a match, to light my last cigarette
One last spark in the dark, course there’s gold on the other end
Figures I’d win the lottery on the last day I get to spend

The air grows thick and the stone is wet, I wish I would’ve stayed in bed
Amongst the old blackened rock, I wipe the sweat from my dizzy head
Time slows and my breathing shows, I think to my kid and the marionette
Cigarette’s gone and the day is done, guess I’ll never see them again
Voices cast from the after-life, hell can’t be as hot as this
Suddenly I feel a breeze, lungs suck up the oxygen
I look up and see my friends, dug me out of the cave-in

Another close shave with death, I think to my kid and the marionette
The gold and the coal and all the rest, another chance I’m feelin’ blessed
Canary’s in the coal mine, she won’t rise to sing again, I thank you for your sacrifice
Until we meet again.
